From uploading my first remix in 2018 to building a community of 35,000+ subscribers — here's what I've learned along the way.
The Beginning (2018)
On May 20, 2018, I launched my YouTube channel "DJ ABHI-Maheshtala" with a simple goal: share my music with the world. I was 15 years old, working with basic software, and had no idea what I was doing.
My early videos were rough. The audio wasn't perfect, the mixing was amateur, and I had zero understanding of YouTube SEO. But I was passionate, and I was consistent.
The Growth Phase (2019-2022)
Consistency was the key. I uploaded regularly — bass boosted remixes, hip-hop instrumentals, EDM drops, Bollywood remixes. Slowly, the algorithms started picking up my content.
By 2020, I hit my first major milestone: 10,000 subscribers. It felt surreal. Real people were listening to my music, leaving comments, and sharing my tracks.
The Break (2023-2024)
In 2023, I made one of the hardest decisions of my career: I took a break. I needed to focus on my Bachelor's degree and figure out my professional path. The break lasted about 1.5 years.
During that time, my channel continued to grow organically. The content I had already created kept bringing in new subscribers. By the time I returned, I had crossed 30,000.
The Comeback (2025)
In early 2025, I announced my comeback. The response from my community was overwhelming. People had been waiting. They wanted new music.
Lessons Learned
- Consistency beats perfection — Just keep creating
- Your audience is more loyal than you think — They waited 1.5 years
- Quality improves with time — My recent work is leagues better than my early stuff
- Music is a marathon, not a sprint — Patience is everything
- Build a brand, not just a channel — That's why I created Mermaidz Records
